Welcome to our site’s new look!
Hope you like the new look! I was working on improving the system and decided to completely overhaul and switch to something new. I think this template fits our name better too!
With this new system, you don’t have the option to register an account, so if you want to have TLV news emailed to you, please join our yahoogroup here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hsrcfresno
Looking forward to BIG NEW THINGS in 2010!
Well the New Year is upon us and we are gearing up for BIG THINGS at TLV!
First of all, after placing a listing on Fresno’s Craigslist, I’ve received a lot of interest in freelance educators offering classes at TLV!
I am right now in the process of sorting through all these offers and setting up trial classes to give them a shot at educating our kids. These are all aimed at being enrichment classes that will help supplement what we are already doing at home with our children.
I am taking ideas from parents that are interested in seeing certain classes/activities happen, so please feel free to email me at president(at)fresnolearningvillage(dot)com if you have any suggestions. And join us on our discussion egroup to talk about your ideas and thoughts: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hsrcfresno Membership to that egroup is open to anyone wanting to learn more about TLV and contribute ideas.
So very soon we will have some wonderful new classes to offer at TLV!
We also have field trips that we are starting to put on the calendar, including at least 2 already for February! So stay tuned!
We are an official nonprofit!
We already got back our paperwork from the IRS and are now officially OFFICIALLY a 501(c)(3) nonprofit! We got our final papers!
Very exciting to have us completely official now!!
We have members!
The Learning Village now has members! We are so grateful for those of you that signed up during our recent Open Houses. Of course we are still accepting new members, this is only the beginning!!
Stay tuned for excited new things happening at The Learning Village!
Please call Tina at 260-6564 if you have any questions or would like to join!
Lending Library Update
The past 2 days we’ve been spending a lot of time working on the lending library. Regina, our librarian, has worked out a system and has purchased our needed supplies and has been busily organizing, stamping, recording, etc etc…And the donations are still coming in! Please call me (Tina) at 260-6564 if you are interested in donating items to our educational resource lending library. A wish list is posted on this site and can be reached by clicking on the link in the main menu to the left. This list’s purpose is to give you some ideas on the sorts of things we are looking for. But we will gladly take things not on the list as well. Anything we decide we don’t need will be donated to GoodWill.
There is already a very good start to our lending library and we are so very thankful for all your generous contributions! Keep them coming!
TLV days/hours set
The Learning Village Board has just decided on our days/hours:
Tues/Wed/Thursdays from 1-5pm.
These will not start immediately, as we are still sorting through our lending library donations and haven’t gotten everything together yet to be ready to officially open. Things are taking longer than anticipated, but we are still moving forward steadily.
1st Official Board Meeting a Huge Success!
On Thursday of this week we held our first official board meeting for The Learning Village. We were able to cover a lot of ground, as we go through our paperwork and finalize things and tweak as needed. We still have a long ways to go, but we did such a fabulous job on Thursday, we’re off to a wonderful start!
We’re very excited about how things are going and look forward to accomplishing more!
Calling all declutterers/purgers…anyone wanting to donate to TLV!
We’re getting closer to being able to open the Learning Village …and we need your
help! We have a need for all sorts of items to get our center off the
ground…So I wanted to put word out to let people know to save these items if
they have them and don’t need them anymore, or just want to purge, etc…We will
soon have a place for you to bring them…For now please just start thinking
about what you can contribute, if you’d like to help us out!
What we need, for “free art time”, which will be (if I have enough takers) 2-3
days a week…
*All kinds of art supplies–paint, glues (stick/white, etc), glitter, confetti,
watercolors, brushes, scissors, stickers, hole punches, staplers, tape…you
name it! also easels!
*All kinds of (pre-cleaned) recyclables/trash–yogurt cups, milk jugs/cartons,
water bottles, tp/paper towel tubes, card board boxes (all shapes/sizes), shoe
boxes, (all shapes/sizes) plastic bowls/tubs, all size/kinds of lids…anything
that you think could be cool to make something out of!
*All kinds of paper–colored, white, scrap, construction, newspaper, newsprint,
butcher, colored tissue paper, wrapping paper, etc…
And anything else you might have that you think might be good for kids to do art
projects with!! My idea is to have this free art time a couple days a week for
Learning Village members to bring their kids (included w/membership, no extra
fees…as long as we have plenty of supplies donated) and I will set up stations
with various supplies for the kiddos to explore the materials however they like,
no instructions. So it would be great if those of you wanting to contribute,
could set a box or bag somewhere to start collecting these sorts of things (I
know it can take a little while for the recyclables and such to pile up enough
to warrant a trip to donate them, so thought I’d give y’all time).
What we need, for our resource lending library…
books–all kinds: kids, parents, curriculum, fiction/nonfiction, picture
books/chapter books, parenting, homeschooling, self help, any topic…but
particular educational, of course.
puzzles–for all levels, from preK up to grownups, wooden/cardboard/anything!
manipulatives–all kinds: tinkertoys, legos, lincoln logs, stringing beads,
linking rings, magz/magnetix, pattern blocks, wooden/plastic/foam blocks, math
manipulatives of all kinds (cuisenair rods, animal counters, abacus, rings,
geometric shapes, etc…), all kinds of construction sets, marble tracks,
thistle blocks, gears, etc…
games–card games, board games, any kind! especially educational, but even ones
just for fun!
learning materials–microscopes, telescopes, body part models, etc…
cds/cassettes–all kinds of music and books on tape/cd
dvds/videos–all kinds, especially educational
active play items–balls, hoops, jumpropes, obstacle course items, stilts, pogo
sticks, parachutes, scarves, bean bags, riding toys, scooters, bikes, etc…
imaginative play items–dress up clothes, shoes, hats, silks, scarves, crowns,
animal ears, costumes, capes, wands, toy kitchens/food, popup
tents/tunnels/playhouses, plastic animals (all sizes), little people,
dollhouses/furniture/dolls, baby dolls/clothes, puppets/puppet theater, playsets
of all kinds, etc…
sand/water/beans/rice/etc play items–tubs, buckets, pails, shovels, sifters,
funnels, basters, eye droppers, cups, bowls, spoons, small pitchers, etc…
musical instruments–all kinds: for kids, for parents, anything!
And anything else that you think someone might like to check out and use for a
period of time to help enhance their children’s lives…If you’re unsure if
something would be appropriate or needed, feel free to ask!
If you have items you’d like to donate, please just hold onto them for now and
soon I will be able to tell you where you can drop them off. Thank you so much
and I hope we can get a lot of donations to enable us to get this off the ground
pretty quickly!!
Update on The Learning Village
Well it’s been slow moving, but things are happening! We have submitted our “Articles of Incorporation”, so we are officially a corporation…next we have our 1023 to make us a tax exempt nonprofit. That will be done soon, hopefully…I’m slowly working my way through the complicated paperwork
We are also in the process of getting our officers all lined up. We already have a bookkeeper figured out and the president…but still need a treasurer and secretary.
